Privacy Policy
Effective date: 26 October 2026 · Website: https://nowhereinparticular.org
Nowhere in Particular ("we", "us" or "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you book or use our Life Abroad consulting services, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It should be read alongside our Terms and Conditions and our Cancellation & Refund Policy.
1. Who We Are
Nowhere in Particular is run by Oli Barrett, with consulting delivered by Oli and Conner Sullivan. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us about privacy at any time at info@nowhereinparticular.org.
2. Information We Collect
Information you give us
- Contact and booking details: your name, email address, the plan you choose, and the date and time of your calls.
- Questionnaire answers: before your first call we ask about your current situation and your plans, for example where you live now, where you would like to move, your work, your rough budget, your timeline, who is moving with you, and what worries you most. You choose how much to share.
- What you tell us during sessions: notes we take during or after calls, the action plan we prepare for you, and any messages or documents you send us.
- Messages: anything you send through our contact form, newsletter sign-up or by email.
Information collected when you pay
Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive your name, email address, what you bought, the amount and whether the payment succeeded. We never see or store your full card details.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages visited) for security and to keep the site running. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Your shopping cart is saved only in your own browser.
3. Sensitive Information
Relocation conversations can touch on personal topics such as your health, family situation, finances or nationality. Please only share what you are comfortable with. Anything sensitive you choose to tell us is used solely to give you relevant guidance, is never shared for marketing, and is deleted on request.
4. How We Use Your Information
- to take payment for, schedule and deliver your consulting sessions;
- to prepare for your calls and create your personalised action plan;
- to send booking confirmations, receipts, reminders and follow-up messages about your sessions;
- to answer your questions and provide support;
- to send our newsletter, only if you have signed up (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- to keep financial records and meet our legal and tax obligations;
- to protect our website and business against fraud and misuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making.
5. Our Legal Bases
Where data protection laws such as the UK GDPR apply, we rely on: contract (to provide the sessions you have booked); legitimate interests (to run, secure and improve our business, and to reply to enquiries); consent (for our newsletter and for any sensitive details you choose to share, which you can withdraw at any time); and legal obligation (to keep accounting records).
6. Who We Share It With
We share only what is needed with trusted service providers who help us run our consulting service:
- Stripe, for secure card payments;
- Tally, for our pre-call questionnaire;
- Calendly, for scheduling your calls;
- our video-call provider, for hosting your online sessions;
- Hostinger, for hosting this website and our email.
Each provider handles your information under its own privacy policy and only for the purpose of providing its service to us. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. We do not share your information with anyone else without your permission.
7. International Transfers
We work remotely from different countries, and some of our service providers are based outside the UK and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where your information is transferred internationally, we rely on our providers' recognised safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses.
8. How Long We Keep It
- Consulting records (questionnaire answers, session notes and action plans): for as long as you are a client, then for up to 2 years after your last session so we can support you if you return, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Payment and accounting records: for as long as the law requires, usually up to 6 years.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Enquiries: for up to 1 year after our last message.
9. Recordings
We do not record consulting calls unless we ask for, and you give, your permission at the start of the call. If a call is recorded, the recording is used only to support you and is deleted within 90 days unless you ask us to keep it longer.
10. How We Protect It
Our website uses HTTPS encryption, payments are processed by Stripe, and access to client information is limited to Oli and Conner. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
11. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- receive a copy of it in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time.
To make a request, email info@nowhereinparticular.org. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to your local data protection authority; in the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
12. Children
Our consulting services are for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the effective date at the top.
14. Contact Us
